- SIETAR Webinar series - ‘New Perspectives on Intercultural Politeness’ | Professor Helen Spencer-Oatey, University of Warwick | 16 June 2020, 17:00-18:00 Session: It’s common for each of us to get annoyed or upset with other people – at work, at home or in the community – and to make judgements about them (e.g. inconsiderate, rude, unfriendly). But what are the grounds for our reactions, and to what extent may cultural factors (interpreted broadly) play a role? In this webinar, with the help of authentic intercultural examples, I’ll be unpacking the processes involved in making such evaluative judgements and, drawing on the recent research in psychology and linguistics, explaining latest understandings of how cultural factors can influence this process.   https://t24cae37c.emailsys1a.net/mailing/51/2927097/15589389/8403/230ba26d91/index.html
