A NILE Insights Panel Discussion with Rose Aylett, Maria Heron and Alan Pulverness, hosted by Jason Skeet

About this Event:

In a situation of increasing social inequality across the world, as well as the current on-going climate emergency, how and why might language teachers incorporate social justice education into their language teaching practice?

This panel discussion brings together three experienced language teacher trainers to share their thoughts and suggestions about critical perspectives in ELT - looking at the importance of questioning and critiquing our existing materials, practices and language use.

The discussion is likely to raise a number of issues about the needs of language learners, the relationship between learners and teachers in the language classroom, and wider institutional structures and mechanisms.

This Insights session provides a forum for you to connect with a panel of experts to discuss and examine a variety of aspects of critical perspectives in ELT.

Some areas that could be considered:

  • What do we mean by the term 'critical perspectives in ELT’?
  • Are critical thinking and ‘critical perspectives in ELT’ the same thing?
  • Which/whose perspectives need to be critiqued?
  • What are the skills language teachers need if they want to foster critical perspectives in their classroom?

NILE MA Programme Leader Jason Skeet is joined by three panellists bringing different perspectives on the world of critical perspectives in ELT: Rose Aylett, Maria Heron and Alan Pulverness will be answering the host’s and your questions, and some of their own

You can submit your questions in advance or pose them directly to the panel during the live session. Details on how to do this are available upon registration.

This interactive, insightful event is free to all – but places are limited!
