We are going through a change of paradigm – from a selective education system to an inclusive one. Classrooms are highly diverse and curriculum needs to be designed to meet this diversity. Universal design for learning is an approach that minimizes barriers and maximizes learning for all students.

In this webinar we will discuss what this change of paradigm means and start looking at how we, English teachers, can apply the universal design for learning (UDL) framework to improve teaching and learning for all people.

Mercedes Viola has an MA in TESOL and specializes in curriculum design and evaluation. She is the Director and co-founder of 4D Content English, responsible for the design and implementation of language learning experiences for government-owned organizations, universities and many well-known global companies. She is also the Co-founder of ProEdu Educacion Inclusiva, and is in charge of supporting the inclusion of kids with disabilities in mainstream education and of training teachers. 

Mercedes is an international speaker in the area of curriculum design and inclusive education, has presented a TEDx talk and spoke at the first FiiS (Festival Internacional de Innovación Social) held in Uruguay. She is a member of the IATEFL Electronic Committee, IATEFL BESIG Online Team, and is an active member of the IPSENSIG (Inclusive Practice and Special Education Needs Special Interest Group)
