Learners who have tools for learning independently are more likely to enjoy and benefit from autonomous learning opportunities. This webinar describes some practical language learning strategies that students can select to aid comprehension and production of the new language. Suggestions for teachers include identifying strategies students already use (in both L1 and L2), demonstrating additional strategies, providing choices in strategies, and self-assessment of strategy use.

Anna Uhl Chamot is Professor Emerita of Curriculum and Pedagogy (ESL and Foreign Language Education) at the George Washington University. Her research and writing focus is on classroom applications of metacognition and self-regulation, language learning strategies, and learner autonomy. Her Ph.D. is from the University of Texas at Austin.
