What is this webinar about?

Annie Broadhead and Nick Glasson introduce the principles of item writing used by Cambridge English in production of test material. They give examples of items with a clear test focus and also discuss ones which are problematic in some ways.


Presenters

Annie Broadhead

Annie Broadhead has a varied and extensive background in language teaching, teacher training, and assessment. Her considerable experience covers working with Cambridge English on English language tests, and running training courses in test writing for ALTE (Association of Language Testers in Europe). She has also written an online course for test writers and reviewed tests produced by a range of test providers. Annie has contributed to several curriculum development projects, the most recent being for the Malaysian Ministry of Education. She is also a published author for Cambridge University Press. Annie has an MA in English Teaching from the Institute of Education, London.

Nick Glasson

Nick has worked in the Assessment division of Cambridge Assessment English for over ten years. He is a Senior Assessment Manager and his role is to manage to production of test materials from commissioning to construction of live exams. He has worked on both a range of English language proficiency exams as well as teaching qualifications. Nick also has extensive experience of assessment consultancy projects delivered to Ministries of Education and related awarding bodies. Before joining Cambridge Assessment, Nick spent seven years teaching English as foreign language in Java, Indonesia. Nick has an M.Ed. in Applied Linguistics from the Open University, UK and is currently studying towards a PhD in Language Assessment with the Centre for Research in English Language Learning and Assessment, University of Bedfordshire.
