“Students can learn how to use grammar in their own writing by studying how poets do —and do not — abide by traditional writing rules in their work. Poetry enables teachers to teach their students how to write, read, and understand any text but it can also be used as a means to build empathy and understanding. In this way it can be a vehicle for messages of social justice, bringing our attention towards injustices, and helping us cope with them.
