“An IATEFL Materials Writing SIG webinar presented by Clare Mass

Vocabulary often comes across as the neglected sibling of grammar structures in syllabi and coursebooks. Particularly in EAP and ESP, though, developing specialised lexical competence and awareness of register is essential. In this webinar, Clare will discuss what it means to truly ‘know' a word or expression, and share ideas for materials and activity types that help you to provide opportunities for learners to develop this knowledge. Examples will be from her own EAP materials, but the ideas will be adaptable and applicable to other contexts, too.

CLARE MASS is a Joint Events Coordinator for IATEFL MaWSIG. She holds post-graduate qualifications from the University of Wales and Trinity College London. Before moving into EAP and tertiary education, she taught English (EFL) at German grammar schools and ESP at several language academies in the UK and Germany. Her professional interests focus on EAP and materials development. Her most recent research has been into specialised vocabulary teaching and feedback on L2 (academic) writing.”
