The Sound Chart Workshop
This will be a practical session on how to use the sound chart in teaching pronunciation. We will begin with an overview what phonemic symbols are and how they are arranged on the chart. We will see how the chart can be used as a way of exploring how the sounds are produced and how they relate to each other. We will focus on where the sound is made and the position of tongue, jaw and lips, as well as on voicing, and I will suggest fun ways of raising student awareness of these aspects of articulation. We will then try out a series of games and activities based on the chart which you can put to use in your own class.
